Chloe Sobolewski

Year: Senior

Major: Psychology

Minor: Child and Family Development and Interdisciplinary Studies (Honors) 

Academic/Career Goals: I plan to earn a PhD in Clinical Psychology and work in academia as a Professor and Principal Investigator. I may also start a private clinical practice to encourage adolescents with anxiety to develop positive coping skills.

Relevant Experience: PsyMORE Director of Mentorship, Research Assistant at the Center for Behavioral Teratology, NIH IMSD Scholar,  SDSU Women in Science Society Pre-PhD Advocacy Group Leader, Division of Diversity and Innovation Peer Coach, Neighbors in Need Donation Coordinator, and Human Resources Student Assistant.

Fun fact:   I enjoy surfing, skiing, roller skating, and volleyball. Generally, I just love being active and spending time outdoors!

Tina Mekany

Major: Psychology

Minor: Counseling and Social Change

Academic/Career Goals: Finish graduate school and obtain my license in marriage and family therapy. I would like to work with underserved populations. 

Relevant Experience: Currently, M.A. in Education with a Concentration in Counseling Graduate Adviser and MFT Trainee at the Center for Community Counseling and Engagement. Graduate student worker with the County of San Diego Behavioral Health Services Department. 

Fun fact: My favorite snack is Hot Cheetos.

Academic/Career Goals: I aspire to achieve a PhD in Clinical Psychology with a possible emphasis in Multicultural Psychology or Forensic Psychology.

Relevant Experience: I am a peer advisor in the Psychology Undergraduate Advising Office and a research assistant at the South Bay Latino Research Center.

Academic/Career Goals: My goal is to earn licensure and open my own private practice as a Child/Adolescent Therapist. I might want to specialize in eating, anxiety, and mood disorders.

Relevant Experience: I am a Research Assistant for Dr. Wiggin’s TEND Lab, a Peer Educator, Treasurer of the Psychology Club, and Vice President of Active Minds.

Fun fact I have a dog named James who is a certified therapy/comfort dog. I take him to volunteer at elderly homes and he is a “Reading Buddy” for elementary school students.

Academic/Career Goals:  I plan on attending graduate school after SDSU to become a clinical psychologist/counselor to treat victims of violent crimes utilizing crisis intervention and trauma-informed care.

Relevant Experience: My experience includes being a Crisis Counselor for Crisis Text Line, a Research Assistant for SDSU’s LEAF Lab, a Fellow at SDSU’s Women’s Resource Center,  Points Publicist for SDSU’s Psi Chi/Psychology Club, a member of Women in Science Society, and a teaching assistant for PSY201. 

Fun fact: I enjoy reading, watching true crime documentaries, and listening to music/going to live concerts

Academic/Career Goals:  I plan on pursuing my Psy.D. with an emphasis in Multicultural Community Clinical Therapy in order to eventually run my own multicultural private practice and nonprofit community resource center.

Relevant Experience: My current involvements include being a Mental Health Case Management intern at URCC, an undergraduate research assistant at SDSU's AFL lab, a peer educator & TA with SDSU's psychological services, and a homeless outreach team member with MSP. All of my experience is geared towards aiding underserved people in San Diego in order to restore underrepresented communities from within.

Fun fact:I love to cook and binge-watch movie series with my friends (currently re-watching Harry Potter!). I'm a big fan of weightlifting and cycling to unwind or taking a good book to the beach and watching the sunset.

Academic/Career Goals: I hope to pursue either a PhD or PsyD in Counseling Psychology, and eventually open my own practice supporting adolescents and their mental health. 

Relevant Experience: I am a research assistant with SDSU's Motivation and Social Identity Lab, a member of Psychology Club/Psi Chi Honors Society and Women in Science Society. I am also a volunteer with Crisis Text Line.

Fun fact: I have a fraternal twin sister and I love attending music festivals.

Minor: Counseling and Social Change

Academic/Career Goals: PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology with hopes of providing therapy and neurological testing in low income ares where this type of care is not always accessible. I specifically want to work with people with childhood trauma/trauma in general and TBIs.

Relevant Experience: I currently work as an ABA therapist for kids with autism, am an intern at the Therapeutic Learning Center as well as shadow a local school psychologist.

Fun fact: I love camping, going to music festivals and trying new food!

Relevant Experience: I am currently a Teacher Assistant in the Psychology Undergraduate Advising Office, Research Assistant in the Brain Development Imaging Lab, and a Behavior Technician for children with autism spectrum disorder. 

Fun fact: I am an identical twin and I love going to the beach, going on hikes, and playing soccer.

Academic/Career Goals: Master's in School Counseling with a PPS credential. I aspire to work in an academic environment to provide academic and personal counseling to students. 

Relevant Experience: I have worked as an AVID tutor and am currently a Presidential Scholar mentor.

Fun fact: I used to work at a doggy day care camp and am CPR certified for dogs!

Relevant Experience:  Former Registered Behavior Technician working with children with Autism and other developmental disorders. Participated in a summer research program through UC San Diego and SDSU studying cancer disparities and presenting at multiple conferences. Current research assistant at the Chronic Illness Research Lab. Involved in Active Minds, Doctors without Borders, the Psychology Club, and the Women's Network.

Academic/Career Goals:  My overall dream is to get my PhD in Clinical Psychology and begin work at the VA working with veterans

Relevant Experience:  I originally came from 8 years of military service then came back to school. I am now in 2 research labs and a TA for Psych 350. I am currently working on research with help-seeking behaviors under the LEAF lab.

Fun fact:I love all things nerdy and creative. I believe the creative side of people’s personalities really opens up their thoughts and brings a breath of fresh air to people’s lives. Fun fact: I work at my mom’s dog daycare facility and have a slight obsession with dogs. I also love practicing yoga and traveling.

Academic/Career Goals: I want to earn either a Master's Degree or PhD related to psychology, but I am still exploring what the best option may be for myself. I am staying open to all of the opportunities available to me with the main goal of wanting to help others with my knowledge of psychology.

Relevant Experience: I am currently working in Dr. Wiggins TEND Lab at SDSU. I am also in Psi Chi and the Counseling and Social Change Club.

Fun fact I absolutely love hiking, running, and being in nature in general. I am no expert photographer, but I also love taking pictures of the places and people in the world.

Fun fact: One fun fact about me is that I am from Washington and have never lived anywhere else until coming to SDSU. I have also never been out of the country but would love to travel one day.
